How to Create a Gig That Gets Clients

Your gig page is your shopfront. Follow these 6 steps to write a listing that stands out, ranks in search, and gets more WhatsApp leads.

1

Write a title that gets clicks

Your title is the first thing clients see in search results. A generic title like "Graphic Designer" gets lost — a specific one stands out.

  • Include your location (KL, Penang, Johor, etc.)
  • Name your niche or industry (F&B, tech, property)
  • Keep it 10–80 characters — short but descriptive
  • Use words clients would actually search for
2

Use Markdown to structure your description

A wall of text scares clients away. Use headings, bullet points, and bold text to make your description scannable. LokalGig supports Markdown — here's how to use it.

Pro tip: Use AI to write your description

Copy the markdown template below and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Google Gemini. Ask it to "rewrite this for my [your service] business in [your location]" — you'll get a polished, professional description in seconds.

3

Choose a thumbnail that stops the scroll

Your cover image is the single biggest factor in whether someone clicks your listing. It appears on the browse page, search results, and when your gig is shared on WhatsApp or social media.

Example of a well-designed LokalGig listing thumbnail

Example: A real LokalGig listing with a clear, professional cover image that shows actual work.

  • Use a clean, high-resolution image (min 1280×769px)
  • Show your actual work — real before/after, real screenshots, real products
  • Avoid generic stock photos — clients can tell
  • Add minimal text overlay if needed (your name or service type)
  • JPG, PNG, or WebP format — will be auto-compressed
4

Add portfolio images that prove your skill

You can upload up to 5 portfolio images. These aren't decoration — they're proof. Show diverse, real work that demonstrates range and quality.

  • Show 3–5 of your BEST pieces only — quality over quantity
  • Include before/after shots if applicable
  • Show different styles or project types to demonstrate range
  • Add context: what was the project, who was the client
  • Use real screenshots, real photos — not mockups
5

Set pricing that builds trust

Transparent pricing gets more enquiries than "Contact for quote". Clients want to know if they can afford you before reaching out.

Fixed PriceBest when scope is clear — "Logo Design: RM 350"
Starting FromShows minimum — "From RM 200" for flexible scope
RangeSets expectations — "RM 300–800" depending on complexity
Per Hour/DayFor ongoing work — "RM 50/hr" or "RM 400/day"
  • Always show a price if possible — even a range helps
  • "Negotiable" or "Contact for quote" gets fewer clicks than a real number
  • Research what others charge in your category — price competitively
  • You can always adjust pricing later
6

Use tags that clients search for

Tags help your gig show up when clients search. Think about what words a client would type when looking for your service.

Bad tagscreative, good, professional, best
Good tagslogo, branding, F&B, restaurant, KL
  • Use up to 5 specific tags
  • Include your location as a tag (e.g. "Penang", "Selangor")
  • Use industry terms your clients would search
  • Mix service type + industry + location tags
